Roald AMUNDSEN, Norwegian polar-explorer, 1872-1928. It drove through the northwest-passage at the North-coast of North America in the year 1903-1906 for the first time. He reached 1911 as first the South-pole and flew over the North-pole with Nobile and Ellsworth 1926. 1928 on the search for the unsuccessful airship of Nobiles crashed and since then missing.
